Salman Khan Finally Loses Celebrity Cover
i.  Actor Salman Khan, sentenced to five years for killing a homeless man in a hit-and-run in 2002, will not go to jail for now. He has been allowed to go home till Friday, when the Bombay High Court will hear his appeal for bail.

ii. A Mumbai court this morning rejected Mr Khan's claims that it was his driver who was at the wheel of his Toyota Land Cruiser when it ran into a group of homeless men sleeping outside a Mumbai bakery. One man, Nurullah Mehboob Sharif, died, four were injured.

iii. Mr Khan broke down in court after hearing he was sentenced to five years in jail.  The court said all seven charges against him -including culpable homicide- had been proven. The maximum sentence he could have got was 10 years.
iv. Mr Khan, 49, then applied for bail to the Bombay High Court, which has said he will not be arrested till Friday.
v. He is under trial in Rajasthan for shooting an endangered black buck gazelle in 1998. He spent a week in jail in 2006 in Jodhpur before being granted bail. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 7 years.

2. Maharashtra government decided to bring down the crop loss percentage, which is crucial in awarding compensation to farmers whose crop is hit by natural calamities such as unusual rains and hailstorms, to 33 per cent from existing 50 per cent. The state cabinet also raised the amount of compensation by 50 per cent.

महाराष्ट्र सरकार ने फसल हानि प्रतिशत को कम करने का निर्णय लिया है जो उन किसानों को मुआवज़ा देने के लिए महत्वपूर्ण है जिनकी 33 प्रतिशत फसल बेमौसम बारिश और ओलावृष्टि जैसी प्राकृतिक आपदाओं से बर्बाद हो गई है। इसके साथ ही राज्य मंत्रिमंडल ने मदद राशि में भी 50 प्रतिशत बढ़ोतरी की गई है।

3. France signed a 7.02 billion US dollars agreement with Qatar to supply 24 Dassault Aviation-built Rafale fighter jets. This is the third contract to sell Rafale Fighter jets after contracts with Egypt and India. Agreement was signed by the French President Francois Hollande and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha, Qatar.

फ्रांस ने 24 डसॉल्ट विमानन-निर्मित रॉफेल लड़ाकू विमानों की आपूर्ति करने के लिए कतर के साथ 7.02 बिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर के समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए। यह मिस्र और भारत के साथ अनुबंध के बाद रॉफेल लड़ाकू जेट विमानों को बेचने के लिए तीसरा अनुबंध है। समझौते पर दोहा, कतर में फ्रांस के राष्ट्रपति फ्रेंकोइस होलांदे और कतरी अमीर शेख तमीम बिन हमद अल थानी ने हस्ताक्षर किए।

4. The United States authorized commercial ferry services to Cuba for the first time in more than a half-century, another major step in improving relations between the two countries. It can pave the way for business of millions of dollars and movement of hundreds of people between Florida and Havana.

संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका ने दशकों बाद अमेरिका और क्यूबा के बीच पहली नौका सेवा को अपनी मंजूरी दे दी। यह दोनो देशों के बीच संबंधों को सुधारने का एक प्रमुख कदम है। इससे संभवत: फ्लोरिडा और हवाना के बीच होने वाले लाखों डॉलर के व्यापार और सैकड़ों लोगों के आने जाने का एक नया रास्ता खुल सकता है।

5. More than three decades after the project was initiated, Army inducted the indigenously- developed supersonic surface-to-air missile Akash, capable of targeting enemy helicopters, aircraft and UAVs from a range of 25 kms. Akash Missile System is an indigenously developed supersonic short range surface-to-air missile system with the capability to engage a wide variety of aerial threats like aircraft, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles up to a maximum range of 25 km and up to an altitude of 20 km.

परियोजना की शुरुआत के तीन दशक से भी अधिक समय बाद सतह-से-हवा में मार करने वाली सुपरसोनिक मिसाइल 'आकाश' को सेना में शामिल कर लिया गया। यह मिसाइल दुश्मन के हेलीकॉप्टरों, विमानों और मानवरहित विमानों को 25 किलोमीटर दूर से निशाना बना सकती है। आकाश मिसाइल प्रणाली स्वदेशी तौर पर विकसित ऐसी मिसाइल है, जो सतह-से-हवा में छोटी दूरी तक वार कर सकती है। इसमें विमानों, हेलीकॉप्टरों और मानवरहित विमानों जैसे विभिन्न हवाई खतरों पर अधिकतम 25 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर और 20 किलोमीटर तक की उंचाई पर वार करने की क्षमता है।

6. Stuart Bingham won 2015 Snooker World Championship. Stuart Bingham beat Shaun Murphy 18-15 in a gripping final at the Crucible to win his first World Championship. It made him the oldest world champion since Ray Reardon, at 45, won in 1978.

स्टुअर्ट बिंघम ने अपने केरियर की पहली विश्व चैम्पियनशिप जीती। स्टुअर्ट बिंघम ने खेले गए खिताबी मुकाबले में शॉन मर्फी को 18-15 से हराते हुए 2015 स्त्रूकर विश्व चैम्पियनशिप जीत ली। इस जीत से वे 1978 में विजयी रहे रे रिअरडन (45) के बाद सबसे अधिक उम्र वाले विश्व चैम्पियन बन गए हैं। 

7. England batsman Jonathan Trott (34) has retired from international cricket. Trott who started his career in the year 2009 scored 3,835 runs in 52 Tests, including 9 centuries and 19 fifties.

इंग्लैंड के बल्लेबाज जोनाथन ट्रॉट (34) ने अंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट से संयास ले लिया है। वर्ष 2009 में करिअर शुरू करने वाले ट्रॉट ने 52 टेस्ट में 3835 रन बनाए, जिनमें 9 शतक और 19 अर्धशतक शुमार हैं। 

8. The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Jammu and Kashmir Bank Ltd for providing Life Insurance coverage to savings bank account holders. The insurance cover will be provided under Pradhan Mantra Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, a scheme announced by the Government of India in the financial budget. The scheme will give Life Coverage of Rs. 2 lakhs to savings account holders of the bank between 18 to 50 years of age in case of death due to accident or natural to account holders of the bank with very low premium of Rs. 330.

भारतीय जीवन बीमा निगम (एलआईसी) ने जम्मू एंड कश्मीर बैंक लिमिटेड के साथ उसके बचत खाताधारियों को प्रधानमंत्री जीवन ज्योति बीमा योजना के तहत जीवन बीमा उपलब्ध कराने के उद्देश्य से करार किया है। बीमा कवर प्रधानमंत्री जीवन ज्योति बीमा योजना, जिसकी घोषणा भारत सरकार द्वारा वित्तीय बजट में की गई थी, के तहत प्रदान किया जाएगा। इस योजना के तहत बैंक के 18 से 50 वर्ष की आयु वाले बचत खाताधारियों को 330 रुपए के न्यूनतम प्रीमियम के साथ प्राकृतिक या दुर्घटना से मौत होने की स्थिति में 2 लाख रुपए का बीमा कवरेज दिया जाएगा।

9. Michael Blake, who won an Oscar for writing the script of Dances With Wolves died at the age of 69. Blake wrote the novel Dances With Wolves in 1988, before it was turned into an Oscar-winning feature film. The book went on to sell more than 3.5 million copies and was translated into 15 languages.

'डांसेज विद वोल्व्स' के लिए ऑस्कर पुरस्कार जीतने वाले लेखक माइकल ब्लेक का निधन हो गया है। वह 69 वर्ष के थे। ऑस्कर जीतने वाली फीचर फिल्म में रूपांतरित होने वाले इस उपन्यास, 'डांसेज विद वोल्व्स' को ब्लेक ने 1988 में लिखा था। पुस्तक की 3.5 लाख से अधिक प्रतियां बिकीं और 15 भाषाओं में इसका अनुवाद किया गया।

10. The government has appointed Arun Jha as the next Tribal Affairs Secretary. Jha, an IAS officer of the 1981 batch from Bihar, was Special Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. Jha has served the Government of Bihar and Center in various capacities.

सरकार ने अगले जनजातीय मामलों के सचिव के रूप में अरुण झा को नियुक्त किया है। झा, बिहार से 1981 बैच के आईएएस अधिकारी, प्रशासनिक सुधार और लोक शिकायत विभाग, कार्मिक मंत्रालय, लोक शिकायत और पेंशन के विशेष सचिव थे। झा ने विभिन्न पदों पर बिहार और केंद्र सरकार की सेवा की है।
