As part of the first anniversary celebrations of the NDA government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the anticipated agriculture-focused channel DD Kisan tomorrow (26 May).
A review meeting of the preparations for the 24-hour channel’s launch was held in New Delhi on Saturday.
Information & Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley, Prasar Bharati chairperson Dr A Surya Prakash, I&B secretary Bimal Julka and other officials attended the meeting. DD KISAN LogoIn a multi-media exhibition organised by the DAVP, Jaitley highlighted how DD Kisan would benefit the farming community in terms of knowledge, understanding of issues, matters related to meteorology, and new farming technologies.
The government has made DD Kisan a ‘must carry’ channel, making it mandatory for cable and direct-to-home (DTH) operators to provide it to their subscribers. Kisan TV’s programmes would be primarily for the agriculture sector and rural India. Information related to weather can be very useful.
DD Kisan will communicate government policies and decisions to the farmers, provide news about technological innovations in the fields of agriculture and animal husbandry, promote water conservation with the slogan ‘Per Drop More Crop’, and disseminate information about weather and climate change, along with the availability of new agricultural equipment, seeds, etc.
Some of the shows to be aired include ‘Kisan Samachar’, which will give daily news about rural India; ‘Vaad Samvaad’, which will talk about solutions regarding farming and animal raising through discussions with specialists; and ‘Gaon Desh Live’, a one-hour daily programme giving farmers information related to agriculture, animal wealth, grain storage, and more.
DD Kisan will air a special titled ‘Kisan Prashnotri’, which is produced out there in the villages. The programme will address farmers’ queries. Besides, farmers will be awarded the ‘Kisan Cup’ for giving the right answer to questions posed by the channel.
In addition, ‘Gaon Chaupal’ will inform farmers about rural development policies and programmes. There will also be a health and hygiene awareness programme under the same. ‘Hello DD Kisan’ will be based on telephonic dialogues between specialists and farmers.
