Amidst the war of weapons which continued for over 6 years destroying
the world and bringing humanity down on its knees, world witnessed a
massacre which stunned the world into silence, a long pause which left a
scar that continues to sting till date! During the final stage of
World War II US dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities, Hiroshima
and Nagasaki. These bombings killed 140,000 people and it is marked in
the history as the only time when nuclear weapons were used for warfare.
On August 6, 1945, exactly 70 years ago, uranium gun-type atomic bomb
called Little Boy was dropped on Hiroshima which was followed by a Fat
man, a plutonium implosion-type bomb, which was dropped on Nagasaki on
August 9.

UK too tested a nuclear weapon in October 1952.
Even India holds nuclear weapons which were first tested under code-name Smiling Buddha in May 1974, second tests took place in Pokhran.
As per the reports nine countries hold nuclear weapons, namely, the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, China, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel.
