1. Microsoft's Bill Gates tops the first Forbes list of the richest global tech billionaires. Gates led the group with an estimated worth of $79.6 billion, trailed by Oracle founder Larry Ellison at $50 billion. Jeff Bezos of Amazon came at third with net worth of $47.8 billion. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg snared the number four position ($41.2 billion), followed by Google founders Larry Page ($33.4 billion) and Sergey Brin ($32.8 billion).

माइक्रोसॉफ्ट के बिल गेट्स ने फोर्ब्स की सबसे धनी ग्लोबल टेक अरबपतियों की पहली सूची में शीर्ष स्थान प्राप्त किया है। गेट्स 79.6 बिलियन अनुमानित संपत्ति के साथ सूची में प्रथम हैं। उनके बाद दूसरे स्थान पर 50 बिलियन डॉलर की संपत्ति के साथ ओरेकल के संस्थापक लैरी एलिसन हैं। अमेज़न के जेफ बेजोस 47.8 बिलियन डॉलर की कुल संपत्ति के साथ तीसरे स्थान पर हैं। फेसबुक के संस्थापक मार्क ज़ुकेरबर्ग (41.2 बिलियन डॉलर) चौथे स्थान पर रहे। गूगल के संस्थापक लैरी पेज (33.4 बिलियन डॉलर) और सेर्गेई ब्रिन (32.8 बिलियन डॉलर) सूचि में पाँचवे स्थान पर हैं।

2. NASA has extended a contract with Russia's space agency for $490 million to carry US astronauts to the International Space Station amid a lack of Congressional funding. The United States will continue to rely exclusively on Russia to take astronauts to the orbiting outpost under the new contract, which runs until 2019, even as relations between the two countries have reached their lowest point since the Cold War.

कांग्रेस से मिलने वाले कोष की कमी के बीच नासा ने अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष यात्रियों को अंतरराष्ट्रीय अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन ले जाने के लिए रूस की अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी के साथ अपने करार को बढ़ा दिया है और यह करार 490 मिलियन डॉलर का है। इस नए करार के तहत अपने अंतरिक्ष यात्रियों को कक्षा में भेजने के लिए अमेरिका रूस पर निर्भरता को बरकरार रखेगा। शीतयुद्ध के बाद से दोनों देशों के रिश्तों निम्नतम बिंदु पर पहुंच गए हैं, फिर भी यह समझौता वर्ष 2019 तक चलेगा।

3. Indian-American Atul Keshap has been confirmed as the U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives, becoming the second Indian-origin diplomat to be posted to the region after Richard Rahul Verma. Keshap (44), a former official at the US Embassy in India, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the country’s envoy which would be his first Ambassadorial posting. He is currently working as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in South and Central Asian Affairs Bureau of State Department. 

श्रीलंका और मालदीव में अमेरिका के राजदूत के तौर पर भारतीय अमेरिकी अतुल केशप की पुष्टि कर दी गई है। वह रिचर्ड राहुल वर्मा के बाद इस क्षेत्र में नियुक्त किए गए भारतीय मूल के दूसरे राजनयिक हैं। अमेरिकी सीनेट ने देश के राजदूत के तौर पर केशप (44) के नाम की पुष्टि की। राजदूत के तौर पर यह उनकी पहली नियुक्ति होगी। केशप पूर्व में भारत में अमेरिकी दूतावास में अधिकारी भी रह चुके हैं। वह इस समय विदेश मंत्रालय के साउथ एंड सेंट्रल एशियन अफेयर्स ब्यूरो में उपसहायक विदेश मंत्री के तौर पर कार्यरत हैं।

4. President Mamnoon Hussain approved Justice Jawad S. Khawaja’s appointment as new Chief Justice with effect from August 17 after retirement of Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk. Justice Jawad S Khawaja will take charge as Chief Justice from August 17. Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk is set to retire on August 16 after completing his tenure. Justice Khawaja is the senior most judge in the ranks after Justice Mulk’s retirement.

पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति ममनून हुसैन ने न्यायाधीश नासिर-उल-मुल्क की सेवानिवृत्ति के बाद पाकिस्तान के अगले मुख्य न्यायाधीश के रूप में न्यायमूर्ति जवाद एस. ख्वाजा की नियुक्ति को मंजूरी दे दी। न्यायमूर्ति ख्वाजा मुख्य न्यायाधीश नासिर-उल-मुल्क के बाद सुप्रीम कोर्ट में सबसे वरिष्ठ न्यायाधीश होंगे, जो कि 17 अगस्त को मुख्य न्यायाधीश का पदभार संभालेंगे। मुख्य न्यायाधीश मुल्क 16 अगस्त को सेवानिवृत्त होंगे।

5. India’s biggest telescope – Multi-Application Solar Telescope (MAST) was inaugurated at Udaipur (Rajasthan). MAST would help in the study of movements of stars and sun even in day time. MAST has been installed at the Udaipur Solar Observatory, where it is surrounded by water to keep temperature pleasant. Authorised by the Ministry of Science and Technology, MAST has been funded by the Department of Space. So far Rs. 26 crore has been spent on the project.

मल्टी-एप्लीकेशन सोलर टेलीस्कोप (एमएएसटी) नामक भारत की सबसे बड़ी दूरबीन का उदयपुर (राजस्थान) में उद्घाटन किया गया। ये दूरबीच दिन में भी हमारे ब्रह्माण्ड में तारों और सूर्यों का अध्ययन करने में सक्षम है। एमएएसटी नामक दूरबीन को उदयपुर स्थित सौर वेधशाला में स्थापित किया गया है, जहाँ चारों ओर झील के पानी के कारण यहाँ का मौसम खुशगवार बना रहेगा। इसकी स्थापना विज्ञान एवं प्रौद्यौगिकी मंत्रालय द्वारा अधिकृत है जबकि इसके लिए वित्तीय सहायता अंतरिक्ष विभाग द्वारा उपलब्ध कराई गई है। अब तक इस दूरबीन पर लगभग 26 करोड़ का व्यय हुआ है।

6. President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated “Navachara Kaksh”, a science and innovation museum in the Rashtrapati Bhavan campus. The museum aims to spark curiosity about technology among children visiting the Presidential Estate. It has been established with the assistance of the chip-maker Intel while many of the innovations are by Indian students.

राष्ट्रपति प्रणब मुखर्जी ने राष्ट्रपति भवन परिसर में “नवाचार कक्ष” नामक एक विज्ञान और नवाचार म्यूज़ियम का उद्घाटन किया। इस म्यूज़ियम का मुख्य उद्देश्य राष्ट्रपति भवन की सैर पर आने वाले बच्चों में विज्ञान के प्रति जिज्ञासा उत्पन्न करना है। इसकी स्थापना में सुप्रसिद्ध कम्प्यूटर चिप निर्माता कम्पनी इंटेल ने अपना योगदान दिया है जबकि इसमें भारतीय छात्रों द्वारा तैयार की गई विज्ञान की तमाम अद्भुत वस्तुओं को भी प्रदर्शित किया गया है। 

7. State-run Punjab National Bank (PNB) inked Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with government aided telecom companies BSNL and MTNL for another term of 3 years. PNB, BSNL and MTNL had joined hands together in year 2004 and since then BSNL & MTNL are the primary IT link providers for providing connectivity to branches, ATMS and service outlets of the Bank.

सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के पंजाब नेशनल बैंक (पीएनबी) ने सरकारी टेलीकॉम कंपनियों एमटीएनएल और बीएसएनएल के साथ अगले 3 वर्षों का करार किया है। पीएनबी, एमटीएनएल और बीएसएनएल के बीच वर्ष 2004 से ही इस तरह का करार हो रहा है। यह करार पीएनबी की सभी शाखाओं, एटीएम और सर्विस शाखाओं में आइटी लिंक की सेवा देने के लिए किया गया है।

8. In a historic first, a Chinese DNA experiment is set to fly on the International Space Station (ISS) as per the agreement signed between a US private firm and a research group from the Beijing Institute of Technology. The agreement was reached between the Houston-based NanoRacks and Beijing Institute of Technology. The Chinese team, led by Professor Deng Yulin, will shell out nearly $200,000 to NanoRacks for the delivery of the experiment to the ISS on board a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft.

एक अमरीकी फर्म और बीजिंग इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ टेक्नोलॉजी के बीच हुए करार ने चीन को अंतरिक्ष में शोध का एक ऐतिहासिक अवसर प्रदान किया है। करार के तहत डीएनए पर शोध से जुड़े तंत्र को इससे संबद्ध सभी संसाधनों के साथ अंतरराष्ट्रीय अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन (आईएसएस) पर भेजा जाएगा। करार ह्यूस्टन स्थित नैनोरैक्स अंतरिक्ष फर्म और बीजिंग इंस्टीट्यूट आफ टेक्नोलॉजी के बीच हुआ है। प्रोफेसर डेंग यूलिन के नेतृत्व वाली चीन की टीम करार के तहत अमरीकी फर्म को 200,000 डॉलर का भुगतान करेगी। बदले में इस शोध कार्यक्रम से जुड़े तंत्र को स्पेस एक्स ड्रैगन अंतरिक्ष यान से आईएसएस तक भेजा जाएगा।

9. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) and FICCI took their partnership to the next level by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to impart training to MSMEs to make them competitive and boost productivity. This is the second phase of the signing of SCORE Global Programme, wherein national institutes provide training to MSMEs. In line with the objective of Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE), ILO is entrusted with building capacity of FICCI in three phases. 

उद्योग संगठन फिक्की ने सूक्ष्म, लघु और मझोले उपक्रमों (एमएसएमई) को प्रतिस्पर्धी बनाने और उत्पादकता बढ़ाने के उद्देश्य से प्रशिक्षण देने के लिए बड़ी पहल की है। फिक्की ने इसके लिए इंटरनेशनल लेबर ऑर्गनाइजेशन (आईएलओ) के साथ अपनी भागीदारी को आगे बढ़ाते हुए नए करार (एमओयू) पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं। यह स्कोर ग्लोबल प्रोग्राम का दूसरा चरण है, जिसके तहत राष्ट्रीय संस्थान एमएसएमई को प्रशिक्षण देते हैं। सस्टेनिंग कंपटीटिव ऐंड रिस्पांसिबिल एंटरप्राइजेज (स्कोर) के लक्ष्य के क्रम में आईएलओ तीन चरणों में फिक्की की क्षमता निर्माण पर काम कर रही है।

10. The US space agency NASA has named Kirk Shireman as the new manager of its International Space Station (ISS) Program, based at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. Shireman has served as deputy director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston since 2013. Shireman succeeds Michael Suffredini.

अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा ने ह्यूस्टन में नासा के जॉनसन स्पेस सेंटर में आधारित अपने अंतरराष्ट्रीय अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन (आईएसएस) प्रोग्राम के नए प्रबंधक के रूप में किर्क शाइरमैन को नामित किया है। शाइरमैन ने 2013 से ह्यूस्टन में नासा के जॉनसन स्पेस सेंटर के उप निदेशक के रूप में कार्य किया है। शाइरमैन ने माइकल सफरेदिनी का स्थान लिया है।
