New Appointments
  • Arun Kumar Jha was today appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Mumbai.
    • Jha, a 1985-batch officer of Indian Economics Service, is presently working as Director General, National Institute of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
  • Rajalakshmi Devaraj was appointed as Director in Expenditure Management Commission (EMC) under Department of Expenditure.
    • Devaraj, a 1998-batch Indian Defence Accounts Service officer, is presently working as Director, NATGRID (National Intelligence Grid).
Science & Techhnology
  • A new species of crab spiders, has been named as Telangana crab spider (Thomisus telanganensis), after the Telangana state in India.
    • These spiders were discovered by two taxonomy and wildlife scientists from the Zoology Division of Osmania University at Nagnur (Karimnagar dist)
National Affairs
  • Election Commission‬ is going to organise special camps in all Assembly Constituencies across the country on Sunday to update electoral rolls and linking of Aaadhar number with Elector's Photo Identity Card.
    • The objective of setting up such camps is to make electoral rolls completely authentic and error free.

    • The move will also help do away the multiple duplication in Photo Identity Card.
  • Nobel Peace prize Awardee, Kailash Satyarthi has volunteered to help the newly bifurcated states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in tackling exploitation of children.
    • Referring to both the states as a destination of child trafficking, he said that he was ready to work with the new state governments to formulate guidelines that will help prioritize child rights.
International Affairs
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaches Paris, in the first leg of his three nation visit.
    • He was received by the Minister of State for Sports, France, Mr. Thierry Braillard.
    • Modi meets French President Francois Hollande and discusses defence, nuclear, economy, cultural and educational ties
    • India and France inked 17 agreements, including in the field of railways, space and civil nuclear energy.
  • Mumbai terror attack mastermind Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi released from Pakistan jail.
    • India lodged a strong protest over this release, saying the "negative development" reinforced the perception that Pakistan has a dual policy on dealing with terrorists.
  • India today completed air evacuation from Sana'a as situation worsened in Yemen with a bomb blast rocking the Aden port.
    • India evacuated over 5600 persons,  which includes over 4640 Indian nationals and about 960 foreign nationals from 41 countries. 
Deaths
  • Former Air Chief Marshal Hrushikesh Moolgaonkar, who had the honour of leading the fly-past on Independence day in 1947, passed away.
  • Former Australia captain and legendary cricket commentator Richie Benaud (84) passed away.
